Surviving Your Sweets Cravings

In order for you to properly deal with sweets cravings, you must consult a doctor who will provide you with steps to stop, decrease, and control your cravings based on proper diagnosis. Remember that only proper diagnosis can help you ultimately eliminate the unnecessary craving and determine the roots of this "itch" like hormonal imbalances, unhealthy dieting, eating disorders, adrenal fatigue, pre-menstrual syndrome, addiction, and many others.

However, if you find it a bit difficult to talk to an expert about the issue, but you are still willing to get to that point after establishing a comfortable state, then you can try these hints as starting points:

Coping with food cravings

The most important thing is to eliminate the temptations -- keep them out of your reach. Start with your fridge. Examine its contents and remove the cakes, dairy products, sweet biscuits, and others. Try your best to exclude them on your grocery. Better yet, never go to the section that displays sweets as this can make you give in to the temptation.

It would also help if you carefully read the food labels to know which food has low sugar content. Understand the information as much as possible and make sure that you monitor the level of your sugar intake.

Consider also removing sugar through the beverages that you take. Thus, eliminate caffeine-, tea-, or soda-based drinks. These beverages are proven to increase your cravings for sweets as they help your system become insulin resistant since they cause you to consume sugar in a faster rate than usual (specifically when compared to the effect brought about by water alone).

The bottom line in your maintenance of healthy sugar intake and stable level of blood sugar eating properly. This you do in a daily basis, taking into consideration the appropriate time for each meal. Avoid draining your body of energy as this will force your brain to require you consume sugar-based foods that will trigger quick energy. However, if you cannot avoid eating past the appropriate time, always have a snack available on your pocket. That is, if the time comes that you need quick energy, eat fructose- or honey-based foods. But most experts recommend snack bars for this purpose. However, if you can get hold of a glass of a fruit- or vegetable-based juice, that should prove sufficient for your energy requirement.

You can also treat your cravings by feeding them with fruits or spicy foods as these will redirect your desire for sweets.

The above-mentioned tips are useless if you do not work on self-control. This you can practice by: whenever sugar craving hits, give it at least ten minutes. During this period, think of something else or stroll the par and keep yourself busy looking at anything that might redirect your attention from sweets. Better yet, brush your teeth as the after-effect of this activity will lessen your taste buds' desire for sweets.

Moreover, consciously improve your health habits by taking a closer look at your diet. Always make it a point to take your daily meals. Include int them whole grains and less fats, specially in meals. You can also monitor your protein intake and keep it in a stable level because more proteins means more glucagons, which causes hormonal imbalance specifically concerning insulin.
