Macrobiotic Diet
Macrobiotic diet refers to a healthy set of food and cooking habits together with a healthy lifestyle that mirrors nature and life as a whole. It is characterized by a simple and balanced diet. As a natural way of life, it reflects a cosmology that is very close to reality and through this concept, it manages to promote long life. The current macrobiotic philosophy depends on the principles forwarded by a certain George Ohzawa, a Japanese native. The lifestyle and the diet relies on natural methods in food preparation and cooking because the more natural approaches improve health and happiness. Whole foods, which are grown organically in the locality, are classified according to the balance of energy manifestations thereof and are eaten with due consideration to such balance and its effect on the consumer according to the time, season and their health. Some of the Japanese population seems to have adopted this approach in their traditional diet. Using this diet plan, they take into consideration that there are types of food and preparation ideal for each season. However, in doing so, care must be taken with foods that over stimulate the body's system so that it will not be exhausted. Moreover, there are foods that can strengthen the body but can also lead to stagnation, heaviness, and density of mind, mood, and emotions as well. Thus, foods must be taken in quantities and combinations that balance the body, mind and spirit. The macrobiotic diet essentials are carbohydrates, proteins, fats, minerals, vitamins, enzymes, and water – all of which are necessary for health and energy and, as such, must be retained by proper food preparation. These foods have characteristic biological energy manifestations and, according to which, affect the body. They are taken to balance the energies present in the season, climate, and the other foods and processes according to the defined elemental characteristics. Apparently, the elemental characteristics are known by their tastes and influences in the various organs. The balance of acidity and alkalinity in the blood is an effect of the food combinations and if there is imbalance, the condition will lead to disease. How to balance these characteristics must be applied by using the combinations of foods to be consumed or avoided, breathing, exercise, and other methods. The menus and food preparations suggested by macrobiotic diet take a long time to learn. Adopting macrobiotic principles to your diet will take a long time of transition and study. However, seeking a teacher in this discipline will make things easier. Moreover, you must learn to be mindful of everything in life. Thus, bad habits must be gradually avoided, while developing a clear and positive attitude towards life and the things around it. By adopting the macrobiotic thinking, a dieter will learn to distinguish natural from artificial in all aspects of his life, thinking, eating, living, and dealing with the rest of the world. Because of this positive change in the relationships involved, a dieter's life becomes more peaceful and harmonious, his food more nourishing, and his thinking more enlightening. As your taste begins to adjust, you realize that your foods become strange-tasting, but in the end, you will find them delicious even without the artificial sweeteners. Slowly, you will regain the facility to decide according to your true and natural constitution and become natural. From there, you move on to the spiritual aspect. The journey will be very interesting and confusing because of the lifelong artificial education and logic, but it is worth every effort since macrobiotic diet is about finding the source of life. | |||
