Weight Loss Buddy

One of the best ways of staying on the track while dieting that I have discovered is to find a weight loss buddy. What is a weight loss buddy exactly? Well, its someone who is looking for a weight loss buddy. In other words, there are lots of us out there, lonely dieters trying to survive in a calorie rich world, feeling that no-one even notices if we lose a pound.

The thing is, dieting is kind of a life crisis for us natural fatties. We wake up every morning with that healthy walk hanging over our heads, lap up our diet shake and lick out the last drops and spend the rest of the day thinking about food. And I'm talking about thousands of us. So here's the idea, and it works, believe me.

1. Find Out What Your Needs Are

First of all, find out where your weak spots are. If you tend to snack in front of the tv in the evening you need a weight loss buddy who will bring round healthy vegetable snacks instead. On the other hand, you may get motivated by encouraging someone else to start your diet too. The best friendships usually form when there is give and take, with each partner strengthening the others problem areas. If you walk to lose weight then you will obviously be looking for a weight loss buddy that likes walking too, or if you are on a low carb diet you probably need someone who is doing something similar.

2. Look For The Right Person

This is the most important part of the process, because the wrong weight loss buddy can be disastrous. Some basic pointers are; look for someone who will encourage you without being too competitive, and who has similar characteristics. If you like walking, your weight loss buddy should like it too, and most importantly, they should walk at about the same speed or a little faster than you.
Don't choose a weight loss buddy who changes their diet or exercise routine all the time. They wont succeed in losing weight and nor will you. On the other hand, someone who is too strict and isn't willing to try anything new may discourage you just as much, so try to find a fairly flexible person who will enjoy a bit of experimentation.

3. Where To Find A Weight Loss Buddy

This can be easier than it sounds. The amount of secret dieters among us is far higher than you might think, and with a little bit of serious research you should be able to uncover a few good weight loss buddy candidates. Firstly, join some weight loss forums, and post regularly so that you are visible. Secondly, when you exercise look around for other people who are exercising alone, and strike up a conversation. Thirdly, start with a friend who could do with losing a few pounds and convert them into your weight loss buddy. You may find this the best option of all, since your friendship rests on more than just weight loss.

However you find your weight loss buddy, you will find that they make dieting much more fun!
