Exercise For Women

A woman does not need to join a gym or an exercise program, because she has the opportunity to engage in strenuous long-term physical activity on a daily basis. If she is a mother, she will get her exercise with her toddler or her young children as she engages them in play. If she is a brand new mom, it is a simple matter to place the child into a stroller and take a brisk walk around the block (weather permitting).

Housewives can engage in housework, laundry, cleaning floors and instead of these chores becoming a drudgery she can make them out to be a nice workout for her.

Other exercise possibilities include:

  • Bike riding
  • Shopping and power-walking at the local mall (wear ankle weights)
  • Rollerblading with knee pads and elbow protectors
  • Jogging
  • Yard work
  • Gardening
  • Building projects
  • Kite flying
  • Volunteer in your neighborhood for cleanup patrols on the street or at the beach
  • Go to the local park and make use of the exercise equipment there.
  • Take up jogging
  • Learn to surf or go for a daily swim.

The possibilities are endless depending on where you live and how big your commitment is.

Exercising, getting out of that office chair, or opting to walk or bike ride instead of drive, gives you many benefits. It clears your head allowing you to problem solve. It temporarily distances you from any problems you might be facing.  Exercising promotes stronger bones and joints (if you don’t overdo) and will reduce the pain often associated with arthritis.  Walking can help you overcome depression as well and lower your blood pressure.

  • Be sure you have comfortable shoes, loose fitting clothes, and that you carry water.
  • Be aware of your surroundings at all times.
  • Walk with friends, or take the kids or the family dog with you.
  • If you walk alone, keep a small can of mace handy.

Become a Girl Scout leader or 4-H volunteer. Talk to your boss about starting an exercise program at work. Incorporate creative ways to exercise during your busy day- your heart will thank you for it.

Women who suffer from various health issues, such as diabetes, obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure, varicose veins, or who are over 50 years of age should consult with their doctor prior to starting any sort of exercise program.
